Why we built it
The alarm is the excuse. The phone is the problem.
Nobody decides to spend forty minutes scrolling before sleep. It happens because the phone is already in your hand — you picked it up to set an alarm. Take the alarm away and the habit loses its anchor.
The last thing at night
A phone on the nightstand is a phone in the bed. Every piece of sleep advice says keep it out of the bedroom, and everybody keeps it there anyway — because it is the alarm. This is the alarm.
And the first in the morning
Waking to a screen hands your first minute of the day to whatever arrived overnight. Waking to light and a song you picked yourself means the day is still yours by the time you reach the kettle.
Light before sound
The room brightens for up to half an hour before anything plays, so you surface gradually instead of being fired out of deep sleep at full volume from total silence.
We are engineers, not doctors. This is a bedside clock, not a medical device, and it treats nothing — if you are genuinely struggling with sleep, talk to someone qualified. What it does do is take away the one job that kept a phone beside your pillow.

Playing your music
Drop MP3s onto the SD card in the back and each alarm gets its own track, volume and days. The songs live on the clock, so waking up to one does not mean unlocking anything.

It sets itself over WiFi, holds your alarms through a power cut and installs its own updates. Glance at it at 4am instead of lighting up a lock screen — every setting is on the knob on the front.
